Visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross

Built directly into Sedona’s red rock cliffs, Chapel of the Holy Cross is a striking landmark. Its elevated location provides amazing views of the surrounding desert.

It has a unique architecture that was inspired in 1932 by the recently constructed Empire State Building. Upon construction, about 25 tons of rock was moved. When construction was completed, it became a symbol of Sedona’s blend of natural beauty and human creativity. Today, it is recognized as one of Arizona’s most notable architectural sites and was voted one of the Seven Man-Made Wonders of Arizona.

Once you arrive at the chapel, you can take your time walking to the entrance, taking in the views, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. If you’re hoping to avoid crowds, the best time to visit Chapel of the Holy Cross is early in the morning or right before closing. Many enjoy going in the evening, as it allows you to experience golden hour sunlight over the red rocks. It’s a memorable highlight on our self-guided e-bike tour, offering a perfect balance of beauty and history.
